Course Aim
To introduce candidates, who carry out manual handling activities at work, to the hazards and risks associated with manual handling and the methods of reducing and controlling the risks by safe working practices.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course successful candidates will be able to:
- Explain what is meant by the term "Manual Handling" and give examples
- Explain how manual handling can cause injury and give examples
- State the principles for controlling manual handling risks and apply these in a practical context
- Demonstrate a general understanding of the value and purpose of conducting a manual handling assessment
- Demonstrate an understanding of the main provisions of the manual handling operations regulations
- Carry out practical manual handling operation

Assessment
The candidates are continuously assessed for their understanding and participation in the course and are expected to pass a short objective test.
