Course Aim
This course aims to provide candidates with experience, technical knowledge and ability demonstrating competence to comply with safe working practices.
ATVs are extensively used in the outdoor world and offers increased traction (in comparison to cars or vans) to enable operators to cross uneven ground, ditches, gullies and hills effectively.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course successful candidates will be able to drive competently in an off road situation which would include:
- State legal and safety requirements relating to the use of ATVs
- Daily maintenance routines
- Pre-start checks
- Take appropriate action arising from checks
- Conduct a risk assessment of the task to be undertaken
- Select and wear appropriate PPE
- Driving an ATV around a specified course
- Driving an ATV on slopes
- Driving ATV with trailer
- Safe Parking
- Cleaning and checking
Certification & Assessment
Assessment
The candidates are assessed on their knowledge and skills including understanding of legal requirements, safe driving techniques, potential dangers of driving on rough terrain and slopes, function of controls, daily pre-use checks and maintenance, driving with a trailer , safe parking and cleaning.
