Maintain & Operate The Chainsaw

Locations: Dartmoor.

Course Aim

The regular operator maintenance required for petrol driven chainsaws in workshop and field conditions, including starting procedures and pre-work checks.

Course Objectives

It is strongly recommended that Candidates hold at least a recent, recognised Emergency First Aid Training Certificate.

After completing the course the successful candidate will be able to:

  • Observe safety precautions and wear appropriate PPE.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of what is involved in a risk assessment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Emergency Procedures planning.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of advantages of maintenance under workshop conditions.
  • Identify and explain the function of the safety features of the chainsaw
  • Identify component parts of the chain and state their function
  • Demonstrate knowledge of information required to select a replacement chain for a given saw.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of reasons for chain maintenance.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of effects of incorrect chain tension
  • Maintain guide bar.
  • Demonstrate all aspects of cleaning and servicing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety procedures
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cutting performance.
