Course Aim
Tractors are used a great deal in land-based industry, they are very versatile and can perform a wide range of operations.
This course aims to allow the candidate to meet the assessment criteria by displaying a level of underpinning knowledge and practical performance to comply with safe working practices.
Course Objectives
Units 1, 2, 3 (Compulsory)
After completing the course the successful candidate will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of legal and safety requirements relating to Risk Assessment, Guarding, Public Highways, PPE, Attachments, Fuel Storage and Transportation
- Demonstrate awareness of hazards and potential hazards relating to driving at speed, slopes, rough ground and turning on slopes
- Demonstrate economy of fuel use, identify controls, interpret readings, daily checks and maintenance
- Mount vehicle, start vehicle from cold, conduct safety checks, park correctly and stop engine
- Hitch trailer and connect three point linkage implement to trailer, safe driving, reversing and gear changing.
- Demonstrate safe tipping and loading
- Demonstrate parking and uncoupling.
- Demonstrate knowledge of linkage category conversions and PTO shaft attachment
- Demonstrate cleaning and inspection procedures
Unit 4 (Optional)
- Demonstrate knowledge of additional legal and safety requirements relating to use of a loader
- Carry out maintenance and pre-use checks to loader
- Demonstrate knowledge of tyre pressures, safe load indicator and loader attachment
- Remove and refit a handling attachment
- Demonstrate starting, moving, loading and parking

Assessment
The Candidates are assessed on Pre-Use Safety, Operation, Hitching and three point linkage implement to tractor (compulsory) also operating a loader (optional)
